Act Two. Scene 1. Sinking in the Mediterranean Sea.

I. DREADFUL PROVISION
A. DELIVERANCE

Jonah 1:17a But the Lord prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah.

Jonah 1:17b Jonah was in the belly of that fish three days and three nights

II. DISTRESSED PLEA
A. DEPTHS

Jonah 2:1-2, then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from inside the fish, saying, “I cried out to the Lord in my distress, and He answered me; out of the depths of the grave I cried, and You heard my voice.

B. DISAPPROVED
Jonah 2:3-4 For You hurled me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the water surrounded me; all Your waves and Your breakers swept over me. Then I said, ‘I’ve been banished from Your sight; how shall I again look upon Your holy temple?’

III. DESPERATE PRAYER
A. DESCENDING

Jonah 2:5-6 The waters were choking my throat; I was surrounded by the depths. Seaweed wrapped around my head, sinking to the moorings of the mountains. I dropped to the region whose bars closed behind me forever; yet You brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God.

Jonah 2:7 When my life was ebbing away, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer rose to You, to Your holy temple.

Jonah 2:8-9 Those who still cling to worthless idols forsake hope of Your mercy, but with shouts of thanksgiving I will sacrifice to You; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the Lord!”
