A Sermon by Dr. Bob Griffin, Teaching Elder at Sovereign Grace Church
I. RULES FOR SUBMISSION IN THE WORKPLACE
A. RELATIONSHIP OF CONDITIONS
I Pet 2:18a [Domestic] servants, be submissive and totally respectful to your masters
1. SERVANT and MASTER (Col 4:1)
2. SUBMISSION and CONSIDERATION (Rom 12:17-19; I Tim 1:10)
3. SURRENDER and RIGHTS
B. REGARDLESS OF CIRCUMSTANCE
I Pet 2:18b not only to [masters who are] good or lenient, but also to the unreasonable.
1. GOOD and LENIENT
2. HARSH or UNREASONABLE (I Sam 18:6-11, 12-30; 24:2-12; 26:6-12)
II. REASONS FOR SUBMISSION IN THE WORKPLACE
A. RESULT OF CONSCIENCE
I Pet 2:19 For this is commendable, if for the sake of conscience before God you endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
1. COMMENDATION for GRIEF (Eph 6:5-9)
2. AWARENESS and ALLEGIANCE (Jas 1:2-4)
3. SUFFER and ENDURE (Acts 6:8-15; 7:2-59)
B. RECOGNITION OF CONFLICT
1. PUNISHMENT rightly DESERVED
I Pet 2:20a For what credit is there if, when you sin and are punished, you patiently endure it?
2. AFFLICTED yet UNWARRANTED
I Pet 2:20b But if you endure suffering when doing good, this is commendable in the sight of God. (Mt 5:10-12; I Cor 4:11-13)
C. REWARD OF THE CHOSEN
I Pet 2:21a For this purpose you have been chosen.
1. GROWTH and TESTIMONY (Ps 33:10-11; Prov 16:9; 19:21; Is 14:27; 46:9-10; Rom 8:28-30)
2. CHOSEN to SUFFER (Jn 15:18-20; I Jn 3:13; II Tim 3:12)
