I. CAUSES FOR SUFFERING
A. WRONG REASONS FOR SUFFERING

1. MAJOR CRIMES I Pet 4:15a None of you should suffer as a murderer or thief,
(also Rom 13:2-4)

2. GENERAL CRIMES I Pet 4:15b a criminal or agitator.
(also Mk 7:20-23; I Thes 4:11; II Thes 3:11-12)

B. GOOD REASONS FOR SUFFERING
AS A CHRISTIAN I Pet 4:16a But if [anyone suffers] as a Christian,
(also Acts 1:15-16; 6:3; 9:30; 12:17; Acts 9:13; Rom 8:27; 15:25; I Cor 16:1; Acts 9:2; 19:9. 23; 24:14; Acts 11:26; 26:28)

2. AS GOD’S WILL I Pet 4:19a Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will
(also I Pet 5:8; Is 48:10)

II. RESPONSES TO SUFFERING
A. INTERNAL

1. RIGHT ATTITUDE TOWARD SELF I Pet 4:16b let him not be ashamed;
(also Jer 2:26; Rom 1:16; Acts 5:41; Heb 12:2; Mk 8:38)

2. RIGHT ATTITUDE TOWARD GOD I Pet 4:16c he should glorify God on account of that Name.

B. EXTERNAL
1. RIGHT ACTION TOWARD GOD I Pet 4:19b entrust their souls to a faithful Creator,
(also Lk 23:46; II Tim 1:12; Mt 6:26, 31; Ps 31:3-5)

2. RIGHT ACTION TOWARD OTHERS I Pet 4:19c continuing to do good [works].
(also I Pet 2:12; 3:16-17; Mt 5:10-12; Rom 8:18)
