I Pet 5:1a So, I encourage the elders among you,
1. PROVEN AS AN ELDER
2. PRESIDING AS A BISHOP (I Pet 5:2)
3. PREPARED AS A SHEPHERD (Lk 15:3-7; Mt 28:19-20; Ps 23:1-6)
B. CREDENTIALS
I Pet 5:1b as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed:
1. PARTNERSHIP (Ex 3:16; 12:21; 19:7; Acts 14:23; I Tim 5:17; 3:1-13; II Tim 2:2; Titus 1:5-9)

II. RESPONSIBILITY OF A LEADER
A. SHEPHERD THE FLOCK
I Pet 5:2a shepherd the flock of God that is among you,
1. PRIORITIZE (John 21:15-17 Acts 20:28)
2. PASTOR-TEACHER (Eph 4:11-14)
B. PROTECT THE FLOCK
I Pet 5:2b exercising oversight,
1. PRESIDE
2. PREACH (Jer 23:1)
C. LOVE THE FLOCK
I Pet 5:2c not under compulsion, but voluntarily;
1. PRESSURED
2. PURPOSE (I Cor. 13:1-2)
D. SACRIFICE FOR THE FLOCK
I Pet 5:2d not for sordid gain, but eagerly;
1. PRINCIPLED (I Pet 5:4; John 10:12-14)
2. PASSIONATE
E. LEAD THE FLOCK
I Pet 5:3a not domineering over those in your charge,
1. PATIENT (Ezek 34:4; Mt 23:4)
2. PROVIDE
F. EXAMPLE FOR THE FLOCK
I Pet 5:3b but being examples to the flock.
