I. ACT ONE
A. CURTAIN IS RAISED
Hosea 1:1 The word of the Lord that came to Hosea, the son of Beeri, during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and during the reign of Jeroboam II the son of Joash, king of Israel.

B. COMMAND GIVEN
Hosea 1:2-3a When the Lord first spoke through Hosea, the Lord said, “Go, marry a prostitute and have children by her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness by forsaking the Lord.” So he went and took Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim

II. ACT TWO
A. CALL HIM “SCATTERED”
Hosea 1:3b-5 She conceived and bore him a son. And the Lord said to him, “Name him Scattered [Jezreel], for soon I will punish the house of Jehu for the bloodshed at Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of Israel. On that day I will break the bow of Israel in the Valley of Jezreel.”

B. CALL HER “NO MERCY” (no pity)
Hosea 1:6-7 She conceived again and bore a daughter. And the Lord said to Hosea, “Call her name No Mercy [Lo-ruhamah], for I will no longer have mercy on the house of Israel, to forgive them in any way. But I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and I will save them by the Lord their God, NOT by bow or by sword or by war or by horses or cavalry.”

C. CALL HIM “NOT MY PEOPLE”
Hosea 1:8-9 When she had weaned No Mercy [Lo-ruhamah], Gomer conceived and bore a son. Then the Lord said, “Call his name Not My People [Lo-ammi], for you are not my people, and I am not your God.”

III. ACT THREE
A. CONFIDENCE
Hosea 1:10-11a Yet the Israelis will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or counted. In the place where it was said to them, “You are not my people,” they will be called, “Children of the living God.” The people of Judah and people of Israel will be united as one and together choose one Leader.

Hosea 1:11-2:1 And they shall go up from the land, for great shall be the day of Planting [Jezreel]. Proclaim to your brother “My people,” [Ammi] and to your sister, “Received mercy” [Ruhamah].
