II. THE PROPHET’S PSALMS
A. RECALLING GOD’S DELIVERANCE (PSALM 1 OF HABAKKUK)
>>1. COMING

Hab 3:3-4 God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran. His glory covered the heavens, and His praise filled the earth. His brightness was like sunlight; rays flashed from His hand where His power was held. (also Is 11:16; Ex 40:34-38; Deut 5:24; 33:2; I Jn 1:5; Rev 21:23)
>>2. COMPELLING
Hab 3:5-7 Pestilence preceded Him, and plague followed His steps. He stood and shook the earth; He looked and terrified the nations. Then the eternal mountains were dispersed; the eternal hills collapsed. His paths were everlasting. I saw the tents of Cush troubled; curtains hanging in the land of Midian quivered. (also Ex 5; Num 14:12; Deut 28-32; Is 40:12)

B. REMEMBERING GOD’S VICTORIES (PSALM 2 OF HABAKKUK)
>>1. CONQUERING

Hab 3:8-11 Were you angry with the rivers, O Lord? Did you set your face against the rivers, or Your outrage against the sea, when You rode on your horses, on Your chariot of deliverance?
You unsheathed Your bow, calling for many arrows. You split the earth with rivers. The mountains saw You and crumbled ; the raging waters swept past; the depths roared; it lifted its waves on high. The sun and moon stayed in their place at the light of Your flying arrows, at the glint of Your flashing spear.
(also Ex 19; Josh 3:15; 10:12-14)
>>2. CELEBRATING
Hab 3:12-15 You marched in fury across the earth; in anger You threshed the nations.
You marched out for deliverance of Your people, for salvation of Your anointed.
You subdued the head of the house of the wicked, stripping him bare from head to foot. You used his own spear on the king’s head, whose warriors came like a whirlwind to attack me, boasting as if secretly devouring the poor.
You marched through the sea with Your horses, heaping up waves of the water.
(also Judges 8:7)

A. REACTING
>>1. CONFOUNDING

Hab 3:16a When I heard, my body shook; my lips quivered at the sound; my bones felt weak; my legs trembled beneath me. (also Deut 28:58; Heb 10:31)
>>2. CONFIRMING
Hab 3:16b Yet I will rest, quietly awaiting the day of tribulation to come upon the nation invading us. (also Job 3:24-26)

B. REJOICING
>>1. CONTINUING

Hab 3:17 Though the fig tree does not bud, nor grapes on the vines, though the produce of the olive harvest fail. and the fields produce no crops, though there are no sheep in the fold and no cattle in the stalls,
>>2. CELEBRATING
Hab 3:18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will be joyful in the God of my salvation.
