Dealing with Money, part 2 (Reaction to the Rich Young Ruler)

I.        POOR RETURNS

A.      DIFFICULTY OF RICHES

1.     OBVIOUS CERTAINTY. Matthew 19:23 And Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven.

2.     OBVIOUS CONTRAST, Matthew 19:24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”

B.      DETERMINATION TO SAVE

1.     OBVIOUS CONFUSION, Matthew 19:25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”

2.     OBVIOUS CHALLENGE, Matthew 19:26a But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible”

3.     OBVIOUS CONCLUSION, Matthew 19:26b “but with God all things are possible.”

 

II.      RICH REWARDS

A.      DOUBT OF FUTURE

1.     OBVIOUS CONFESSION, Matthew 19:27a Then Peter replied, “See, we have left everything and followed You.”

2.     OBVIOUS CONSIDERATION, Matthew 19:27b “What then will we have?”

B.      DECLARATION OF HOPE

1.     OBVIOUS CIRCUMSTANCE, Matthew 19:28 Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

2.     OBVIOUS COMPENSATION, Matthew 19:29a And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for My name’s sake, will be repaid one hundred times over,

3.     OBVIOUS CONSEQUENCE, Matthew 19:29b  and will inherit eternal life.

4.     OBVIOUS CONSUMMATION, Matthew 19:30 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
