A. PUBLIC EXAMPLE
1. CROSS Matthew 20:17a And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem,
2. COURAGE Mark 10:32b and Jesus was walking ahead of them.
3. CONCERN Mark 10:32c And they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid.
B. PRIVATE INSTRUCTION
1. CONFIDENTIALITY Matthew 20:17b He took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way He said to them,
2. CERTAINTY Matthew 20:18a “See, we are going up to Jerusalem.
3. CULMINATION Luke 18:31b and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.
II. PROPHECY
A. PERIL
1. CARRIED OUT Matthew 20:18b And the Son of Man will be betrayed
2. CHIEF PRIESTS Matthew 20:18c to the chief priests and scribes,
3. CONDEMNATION Matthew 20:18c and they will condemn Him to death
B. PUNISHMENT
1. CONSTRAINED Matthew 20:19a then hand Him over to the Gentiles
2. CONTEMPT Matthew 20:19b to be mocked and flogged Mark 10:34b and spit on Him,
3. CRUCIFIXION Matthew 20:19d and crucified.
C. PROCLAMATION
1. CALLED Matthew 20:19e And He will be raised on the third day.”
2. COME FORTH Luke 18:33b and on the third day He will rise.
III. PERCEPTION
A. PERSPECTIVE
1. CONTEMPLATION Luke 18:34a But they understood none of these things
2. CONCEIVE
B. PERPLEXED
1. CLOUDED Luke 18:34b This saying was hidden from them
2. COMPREHENSION Luke 18:34c and they did not grasp what He said.
