Discipleship: Judas of Kerioth

Discipleship: Judas of Kerioth

01-23-11 Discipleship: Judas Iscariot
a sermon by Teaching Elder, Dr. Robert E. Griffin Jr.
 I. EVIL INCLINATION OF A FALSE DISCIPLE
  A. INTRODUCTION TO HIS CHARACTER
     1. HOME (John 6:71; 7:52)
     2. CALL (Psalm 135:6; Matthew 7:21-23)
  B. INVESTIGATION OF HIS CONDUCT
     1. TREASURER (John 12:6; Luke 8:1-3)

     2. TRAITOR (John 6:64; Psalm 55:12-14

There were circumstances that changed Judas from a POSSIBLE traitor into an ACTUAL traitor. The progression is good to note:
II. SATANIC INSTIGATION IN A FALSE DISCIPLE
  A. INCEPTION OF EVIL
     1. DUPED (John 13:27 James 1:13)

Sow a thought, reap an act
Sow an act, reap a habit
Sow a habit, reap a character
Sow a character, reap a destiny

     2. BARGAIN (Matthew 26:16; Mark 14:10-11; Luke 22:6; John 18:2)

  B. INFATUATION WITH EVIL
     1. BETRAYAL (Acts 1:16; Matthew 26:50; John 18:3-8; Luke 22:47)

     2. REMORSE (Matthew 27:1-8)

  C. INFECTION OF SIN
     1. SUICIDE (Matthew 27:5; Acts 1:18-19)

     2. ETERNITY (Acts 1:25)

Cannot close on such a negative note. Must glean truths for man today, lest we fall into the same error of Judas:
III. INSTRUCTION FOR TRUE DISCIPLES
  A. INTROSPECTION FOR US TODAY
     1. PLAN (II Cor. 5:21; I Peter 1:19-20; Heb 3:13)

     2. SELF (I Cor 10:12; Heb 12:15)

     3. OTHERS (I Cor 10:13)

  B. INVITATION FOR LOYALTY
     1. POSITION

     2. PREDICAMENT

     3. REPENTANCE AND FAITH

Still as of old man by himself is priced
For 30 pieces of silver Judas sold himself, not Christ
