Dealing with Man’s Needs

A Sermon by Dr. Bob Griffin, Teaching Elder at Sovereign Grace Church

I. BLIND CONDITION

A. CIRCUMSTANCES, Matthew 20:29 And as they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed Him.

B. COMPLICATIONS, Matthew 20:30a And behold, there were two blind men sitting by the roadside

Mark10:46b Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timeus

C. COMPLAINT. Luke 18:36-37 And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”

II. BOLD CONFRONTATION

A. CALLING, Matthew 20:30b, and having heard that Jesus was passing by, they called out, “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David!”

B. CONDEMNATION, Matthew 20:31a The crowd rebuked them, telling them to quiet down,

C. CRYING, Matthew 20:31b but they cried out louder, “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David!”

III. BLESSED CALLING

A. COMMAND, Mark 10:49a And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”

B. CHEER, Mark 10:49b So they called the blind man, telling him, “Have hope and get up; He’s calling you.”

C. COMPLIANCE, Mark 10:50 And tossing aside his cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus

IV. BENEVOLENT COMPASSION

A. CRUX, Matthew 20:32 And pausing, Jesus asked them, “What do you want Me to do for you?”

B. CONFIDENCE, Matthew 20:33 They said to him, “Lord, let us regain our sight.”

C. CHARITY, Matthew 20:34a And Jesus in pity touched their eyes,

V. BENEFICIAL CONSEQUENCE

A. CONSTRAINT, Mark 10:52a And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.”

B. CURE, Matthew 20:34b and immediately they recovered their sight

C. CHOICE, Matthew 20:34c and followed Him

D. CONCLUSION, Luke 18:43b glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.
