I.        THOUGHTFUL PREPARATION

A.       WAY OF THE KING

1.       PLACE

Mt 21:1 Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,

2.       PLAN

Mt 21:2a saying to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her Mark 11:2 on which no one has ever sat. Mt 21:2b Untie them and bring them to Me

B.       WARNING OF THE KING

1.       PROCUREMENT

Mt 21:3 If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them at once.”

2.       PRIORITY

Mark 11:5 And some standing at the crossroad said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” And they answered as Jesus had said, and they let them go.

C.       WORD ABOUT THE KING

1.       PROPHECY

Mt 21:4-5 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet, saying, “Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”

2.       PREFIGURED

II.       TRIUMPHANT PROCESSION

A.       WORK FOR THE KING

1.       PLIANT

Mt 21:6-7 The disciples went and did as Jesus had ordered. They brought the donkey and the colt and put their garments for Him to sit on.

2.       PALMS

Mt 21:8 Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road; some cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

B.       WORSHIP OF THE KING

1.       PSALMS

Mt 21:9 And the crowds that went in front of Him and that followed Him were screaming, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”

2.       PEACE

Luke 19:37b-38 began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

3.       PROMISE

Mark 11:10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!

III.      TENUOUS PARTICIPATION

A.       WELCOME OF THE KING

1.       PERPLEXED

Mt 21:10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?”

2.       PROPHET

Mt 21:11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”

B.       WITHSTAND OF THE KING

1.       PHARISEES

Luke 19:39 And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”

2.       PROFOUND

Luke 19:40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”

IV.      TEARFUL PROPHECY

A.       WEEPING OF THE KING

1.       PENDING

Luke 19:41a And when He drew near and saw the city

2.       PAIN

Luke 19:41b He wept over it,

B.       WITNESS OF THE KING

1.       POSSIBILTY

Luke 19:42 saying, “If you, even [Zion], had only known today what would bring you peace! But these are now hidden from your vision.

2.       PREY

Luke 19:43-44 For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up ramparts around you, surrounding you, hemming you in on every side, and level your walls with everyone inside. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you didn’t recognize the day when [God] visited you.”
