I. REBELLION
A. AUTHORITY OF THE OWNER
1. ORIGINATOR
Mt 21:33a Hear another parable. There was a master of a house
2. ORGANIZATION
Mt 21:33b who planted a vineyard, hedged it in, dug a winepress, and built a watchtower,
3. OPTION
Mt 21:33c then leased it to tenants and left the country.
4. ORDINARY
Mt 21:34 When the season for fruit approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to get his fruit.
B. ACTION OF THE CARETAKERS
1. OUSTED
Mt 21:35 And the tenants took his servants and beat one Mk 12:3b and sent him away empty-handed, killed another, and stoned a third.
2. OVER AGAIN
Mt 21:36 So he sent more servants, and they did the same to them.
C. ASSUMPTIONS
1. OWNER
Mt 21:37 Finally he sent his son to them, assuming, ‘They will respect my son.’
2. OCCUPANTS
Mt 21:38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and his inheritance is ours.’
3. OUTCOME
Mt 21:39 Having grabbed him, they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
II. RESPONSE TO REBELLION
A. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
1. OBVIOUS QUESTION
Mt 21:40 Now when the owner of the vineyard arrives, what will he do to those tenants?
2. OVERTHROW
Mt 21:41a He will destroy those evil men
3. OBEDIENT
Mt 21:41b and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.
B. ALARM
1. OUTRAGE
Lk 20:16b When they heard this, they said, “Surely not!”
2. OBLIVIOUS
III. RECKONING
A. ADMISSION
1. OPPOSITE
Mt 21:42a Jesus said to them, Have you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders set aside has become the capstone
2. OMNIPOTENCE
Mt 21:42b this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?
B. ACCEPTANCE
1. OBSTINATE
Mt 21:43 Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to people producing its fruits.
2. OVERWHELM
Mt 21:44a And the one who stumbles on this stone will be broken to pieces
3. OVERCOME
Mt 21:44b and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.
C. APPRAISAL
1. OWNED
Mt 21:45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood He was speaking about them.
2. OBJECTION
Mt 21:46 And although they were seeking to arrest him, they feared the crowds that regarded Him as a prophet.
